Laowa has just released a new ultra-wide-angle lens for FUJIFILM GFX medium format cameras: the Laowa 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX. This compact and lightweight manual lens give you a 110° field of view with Zero Distortion, which is ideal for landscape and architecture shooters. So let’s take a closer look at it!

Regarding ultra-wide-angle lenses for GFX medium format cameras, you have very few options from FUJIFILM. Indeed, the widest lens available at the moment is the FUJIFILM GF 20-35mm F/4 R WR zoom lens, which retails for no less than $2,500.

If you’re looking for wider GFX lenses, Laowa has already released two Shift lenses: the 15mm F/4.5R Zero-D Shift and the 20mm F/4 Zero-D Shift. However, if you don’t need the Shift features, the company has just released a new, more affordable, and faster option: the 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX.

The 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX is a compact 80mm long prime lens that weighs only 546g. Like most Laowa glasses, this fully manual ultra-wide-angle lens is entirely made of metal.

This 19mm lens will give you a 110° angle of view on a FUJIFILM GFX medium format camera. Furthermore, as part of the Zero-D line, you’ll get close-to-zero optical distortion. It means that when shooting architecture or real estate, for example, all the straight lines will remain straight, and you’ll not get a “fisheye” effect.

The lens design of the 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX consists of 12 elements in 10 groups with two aspherical lenses, 3 ED glasses, and 1 UHR glass.

The lens has a very close minimum focusing distance of only 18cm/7″. Moreover, the 5-blade aperture will produce an interesting 10-point Sunstar. Lastly, this 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX has a removable sun hood and a 77mm front filter thread.

The Laowa 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX is available now for $999.
